O-PEE-CHEE 2015-16 UD Hockey Cards

O-PEE-CHEE UD has released a new set of Hockey Cards for 2015-16.  This Hockey Card set is the largest O-PEE-CHEE UD collection of the year, so the package says. Now just the other day at Upper Deck Talk we got our hands on a couple of O-PEE-CHEE UD 2015-16 Hobby Packs.

You can see from the pictures below that they are going for the Retro look this year, hoping maybe that this will produce a bit of interest from some of those who used to collect O-PEE-CHEE hockey cards as kids.  But if you are looking for some gum to chew you will be disappointed.

2015-16 0-PEE-CHEE UD Hockey Cards
However, in our opinion you will not be disappointed with the overall product.  Here is what we found in just two hobby packs of O-PEE-CHEE UD 2015-16 Hockey Cards:

   - 11 Base Cards including #500 Sidney Crosby
   - 2 Retro Cards - Mark Giordano and Benoit Pouliot
   - 1 NHL All-Star - Jaroslav Halak
   - 1 Marquee Legend - Olaf Kolzig
   - 1 Marquee Rookie - Stanislav Galiev

Now our Favorite even though it is only a base card is the Sidney Crosby Hockey Card. We will have more to say about this card in the near future.  Well this was our first look at the O-PEE-CHEE UD 2015-16 Hockey Cards but it will not be our last.  Stay tuned for more to come...

What do you think of the 2015-16 O-PEE-CHEE UD Hockey Cards.  Leave us a comment, follow us on Twitter or like us on Facebook or Google+.  Cheers for now.

Throwback Thursdays - The Legendary Montreal Canadiens - Guy Lafleur

This weeks edition of Throwback Thursdays is centered around one of the Greatest Montreal Canadiens of all time, The Flower, Guy Lafleur.  As stated earlier Guy Lafleur is our all time favorite Hockey Player, Past or Present.  And do we have a Collection for you.  Check this out from the 1977-78 O-PEE-CHEE Set.

We told you Guy Lafleur, The Flower was our Favorite Player.  However, we did not know how many Variants there really was for this set, we were delighted as we leafed through our set and found these 7 Guy Lafleur Variants.

Now for those who might argue that Guy Lafleur was Legendary as a member of the Montreal Canadiens.  Let us Point out here that in this set of Variants we find that Guy Lafleur in the 1976-77 NHL Season, get this now was:

                          - 1st in Scoring with 136 Points
                          - 1st in Assist with 80
                          - 2nd only to Steve Shutt in Goals with 56
                          - 3rd in Game Winning Goal with 8
                          - 1976-77 Record Breaker with the 136 Points
                          - 1976-77 Record Breaker with 80 Assists
                          - And on top of that Guy Lafleur was a 1st Team All-Star

That right 1st Team All-Star.  So just from these cards alone we find a lot of proof that surports our vote for Guy Lafleur being one of the Greatest Players to have ever played for the Montreal Canadiens and we might say in the NHL.  Anyone who watched the games in the 1970s will remember Lafleur breaking down the wing and scoring that signature goal from just inside the point.

We Hope you enjoyed this edition of Throwback Thursdays where we gave you more than we promised.  We would love to hear from you, Leave a Comment, Like us on Facebook @UpperDeckTalk, Google+ us or Follow us on Twitter @UpperDeckTalk.  Cheers.

Upper Deck MVP Mike Bossy SP

I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the Retail Box of Upper Deck MVP Hockey Cards that I bought at Toys R Us. For inside was this SP of one of the Greats from the New York Islanders, Mike Bossy.

Mike Bossy Upper Deck MVP SP

Mike Bossy was known for his ability to put the puck in the net, he was a natural Goal Scorer.  When given the Opportunity to put the puck in the net he rarely missed. He, we might say was a Goaltenders Nightmare on any given night.

What is your Favorite Goal Scorer of all time.  Leave a Comment or Link Back or Follow us on Twitter.  Cheers.

The Saturday Night Story - The Sock Hockey League!!!!

Growing up with 3 Brothers we were always looking for ways to Play the game of Hockey.  Whether it be on the Ice or in the Driveway or Backyard.  But one particular game we used to play was Sock Hockey in the Hallway of our Family home.

This was a great way to enjoy a really long January afternoon when it was to cold to go outside.  After all, all you needed was a pair of old socks for a puck and a hallway with enough room to shoot and score off the boards and you were all set.

We used to Play tournaments, organized of course by our oldest brother, he was always planning and setting the rules for the game.  The Rules were simple: You Play One on One, You have to stay Seated, you can only use your Hands to Shoot with, no Shot over the shoulder would count as a goal and the game was over when somebody reached 10.

Tournament could be designed and changed on the go of course.  But our most common ways were modeled after the game we loved to play, best of 3, best of 5 and best of 7 for the championship.  If those walls in that hall could talk they would tell of some of the greatest games ever played by 4 brothers who loved the game of hockey.  Games where the Greats were called in to play for key moments.  Greats like Lafleur, Shutt, Dryden, Orr and Sittler to Mention a few.

We would like for you to organize a Sock Hockey League in your family home or anywhere there's a hall and 2 walls  and create some great memories of your own and share them with us in whatever format you like.

Send us your Sock Hockey League Videos, Photos or Stories and we will share them here.  You can send them to upperdecktalk@gmail.com.  Cheers.

Throwback Thursday - Montreal Canadiens Team Photo 1977-78

Starting a little something new here today at Upper Deck Talk.  I 'm going to call it Throwback Thursdays.  Every Thursday I am going to share a card from the 1977-78 season featuring some of the cards that I treasure from the O-PEE-CHEE (Upper Deck) Hockey Cards.  I might start a little voting and contest in the future as well, stay tuned.  The first Hockey Card is this one of the Montreal Canadiens.

What is interesting about this card is the fact that this also contains the Checklist on the back of all the Montreal Canadiens Hockey Cards in the 1977-78 Collection.  Checkout the Photo below.

Upper Deck MVP Hockey Cards Parallels

I recently purchased a 34 card pack of Upper Deck MVP Hockey Cards. I bought them at the same store as before, where the sales associate said that I probably shouldn't buy them because of the low value attached to them. Yeah, he was there again and he asked how I made out and when I told him about the cards in the box he seemed kind of interested, so maybe he will buy some now, who knows.

This 34 card pack was all low series, however, I did get this parallel card, a Silverscript of Jordan Eberle of the Edmonton Oilers.

What was interesting about this find, at least to me is that I was fiddling through this pack of cards and I came to Jordan Eberle's regular card and then directly after it was the Jordan Eberle SilverScript parallel and I thought, nice. Tell me what you think of the Upper Deck MVP Selection this year. Comment, Like or Follow me on Twitter. Thanks. Cheers.

Upper Deck Hockey Cards New Releases

This is going to be an exciting week for Upper Deck Hockey Cards Collectors. This week Upper Deck will be releasing two new products. First, The Upper Deck Team Canada Master Collection Hockey and second The Upper Deck NHL Artifacts 2015-16.

The First release happens today but I must say it is for the serious collector who has saved up his nickles and dimes throughout the year and maybe some quarters too. From what I gather The Upper Deck Team Canada Master Collection Hockey is selling at around $2700.00.

But fear not, for on its heels is the The Upper Deck NHL Artifacts 2015-16 Hockey Cards and the price point is much more palatable and this set will be released on September 2. I will have more to say on these as I get my hands on them. Cheers.

Upper Deck MVP Hockey Cards 2015-16 Take Three

Today's Upper Deck MVP hockey cards experience is going to focus on a retail box that I bought while still visiting this nearby city. This retail box of Upper Deck MVP hockey cards had 24 packs with 5 cards per pack for a grand total of 120 hockey cards.

I have kind of a funny story to tell around the purchase of this product. The associate at Toys R Us who just happens to be an avid Hockey Card Collector advised me against buying this product due to the fact that there isn't alot of value in the box. I thought that to be funny considering he is there to sell the products in his department.

But I decided to go ahead even with this buyers beware warning and purchase 1 box at $25.99, not a bad price considering Walmart wanted $29.99 for the same product. I didn't know what to expect especially after being warned. But I think I did okay. Here's the Break Down.

      - High Series SP -16
      - Rookie Cards - 3
      - SilverScript Cards - 2
      - SilverScript Rookie Cards - 1
      - NHL Territories Cards - 1
      - MVP Checklist - 2
      - All 1-100 Cards

I was quite pleased with the cards in this box, especially from a collector who does so for the joy of it. I really collect for the joy of putting sets together than for investment value. I know for the collectors out there and for the associate at the store that I bought this product from I probably didn't score that well, but it comes down to what really makes you happy. Cheers.

Upper Deck MVP 2015-16 Take Two

My next experience with Upper Deck MVP hockey cards was when I visited a hobby shop in a nearby city.  While shopping I picked up a couple single hobby packs each with 8 cards.  There wasn't much to talk about in those 2 packs, no High Series SP or Silver Scripts.  Stay tuned though for I recently bought a retail box of Upper Deck MVP and I will be sharing about that experience. Cheers.

Upper Deck MVP 2015-16

On August 5 Upper Deck released the first hockey offering for 2015-16 NHL season.  I first came across this new set while shopping at a local Toys R Us with my daughter.  So of course I grabbed a pack immediately just out of curiosity, after all it only cost $6.99.

This was a 34 card pack, that was the largest offering  available at this store.  There were no High Series SP cards but I did score this Silver Script of Steve Mason of the Philadelphia Flyers.

I really didn't know what to expect for I hadn't read up on Upper Deck MVP for 2015-16.  However, after purchasing this pack I immediately went online to see what the verdict was and found that the reviews were mixed for this years release.

But to be fair the mix in reviews were coming from two different vantage points, those who bought retail and those who bought hobby.  The hobby crew were quite pleased while the retail buyers were not so happy.

But like the old adage says " you get what you pay for" right.
Cheers.
